Low Dosage Accutane Regimen
Hello. I have read a lot lately about low dose accutane regimens. In the us, it seems many doctors are prescribing a flat 10 mg per day, as compared to the 2mg/kg standard, and continuing treatment for 6-7 months. In the UK and Canada, doses are as low as 2.5 mg taken twice a week for mild acne in older adults, who are also looking to slightly dry out excess sebum. This dosage is allowed for continuous long-term use, as it not anywhere near the toxicity of the higher dosage. What have you heard about this, and do you ever prescribe this way, or would you be willing to? It seems like a very safe alternative to high dose regimens. My son, age 16, has bad acne that is unresponsive to Proactive, various "cyclines" etc., and I have bothersome breakouts and excessively oily skin at age 43, but we cannot afford the high cost of a high dose accutane regimen. thanks!
